PROHIBITION OF INNOVATION IN RELIGION

Firstly, we should know what "bid'ah" means according to Islamic teaching.

It is defined as: any invented way in religion that is aimed at worshiping or drawing closer to Allaah. This means anything that is not referred to specifically in Sharee'ah, and for which there is no evidence (daleel) in the Qur'aan or Sunnah, and which was not known at the time of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wassallam) and his Companions. At the same time, it is quite obvious that this definition of religious inventions or innovations, which are condemned, does not include worldly inventions such as cars and washing machines, etc.

There are a few extremely important hadiths of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) that mention general principles (qawa`id) regarding actions and their validity. From the Mother of the believers, `A’isha (Allah be well pleased with her) who said that the Messenger of Allah said:

« من أحدث في أمرنا هذا ما ليس منه فهو ردٌّ»

“Whoever innovates something in this command of ours that is not of it, it will be rejected”

                                                   « وَمَنْ عَمِلَ عَمَلًا لَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ أَمْرُنَا فَهُوَ رَدٌّ »

Whoever does an action not based on our commands, it will be rejected”.                                                                            (Narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim)

This is one of the comprehensive statements of the prophet (PBUH) which is the basis for several fundamental principles. It provides a criterion for evaluation of the visible aspects of one's deeds, complementing the hadith, ''Deeds are only by intention,'' which deals with the unapparent aspect. Combining the import of both.

Scholars have concluded that there are two conditions for the acceptability of any deed by Allah(swt);

1-Sincerity of intention (Ikhlas), i.e., it must be done for the sake of Allah alone.
2- Correctness (sawab),i.e, it must be done in the way ordained by Him in the quran and sunnah of the prophet (PBUH).

*This hadith warns against innovation (bid'ah) in all matters of religion. In this context the word "matter" (amr) carries the meaning of religious practice and law. "Rejected" means that the deed is unacceptable to Allah and so it will not be rewarded.

* Its a clear prohibition against making any changes in or additions to the religion and warns those sects differing in their ways, for anything claimed to be a valid religious practice must be based upon a proof from the qur'an and sunnah. That is because Allah (subhanhu wa ta'ala) has completed and perfected the religion of islam which He ordained for mankind as stated in Sural al -Ma'idah 5:v3

“This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you,and have chosen for you Islam as your religion”

*One who asserts otherwise by insistence on some alternative way places himself in danger of falling into disbelief through his contradiction of the Quran and refusal of disobedience to the prophet (PBUH)

The messenger of Allah (SAW) elaborated further when he said, "Indeed the best statement is the book of Allah, and the best guidance of Muhammad (Sallalahu alaihi wasallam). And the worst of matters are the newly devised ones, and every innovation is misguidance.'' and again this refers to matters of religion and not those of worldly life

This hadith is one which should be memorized, made known to people, and employed for the prevention of every kind of wrongdoing. Few people give attention to deviations in the more private sphere of worship, particularly when an ignorant majority has been led by custom or by some "shaykh'' to believe that certain innovations are good and are valid ways to seeking nearness to Allah. These innovations are practices that have no basis in the sunnah.

AWARENES IS THE FIRST STEP TO AMENDMENT
Any act performed with sincere intention of drawing nearer to Allah must be first be ordained by Him either through His Books or through His Prophet. Then it must be done precisely  in the way demonstrated or instructed by the Messenger of Allah, who was sent to mankind with complete guidance in all matters of faith and its application to the affairs of human life.

HADITH E JIBRIL

ASSALAMUALAIKUM WA RAHMATULLAHI WA BARAKATAHU

Hey friends. Hope all of you are doing good....today i thought to write about yet another famous hadith which gives a beautiful description of our Deen. Subhaan Allah how beautifully does Allah Subhaanahu wa Taa'la teach us and through such amazing mean. Allahu Akbar. So beginning with a Bismillah, here is the hadith e jibril :

On the authority of 'Umar, radiyallahu 'anhu, who said:

"While we were one day sitting with the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam, there appeared before us a man dressed in extremely white clothes and with very black hair. No traces of journeying were visible on him, and none of us knew him.

He sat down close by the Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam, rested his knee against his thighs, and said, O Muhammad! Inform me about Islam." Said the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam, "Islam is that you should testify that there is no deity save Allah and that Muhammad is His Messenger, that you should perform salah (ritual prayer), pay the zakah, fast during Ramadan, and perform Hajj (pilgrimage) to the House (the Ka'bah at Makkah), if you can find a way to it (or find the means for making the journey to it)." Said he (the man), "You have spoken truly."

We were astonished at his thus questioning him and telling him that he was right, but he went on to say, "Inform me about iman (faith)." He (the Messenger of Allah) answered, "It is that you believe in Allah and His angels and His Books and His Messengers and in the Last Day, and in fate (qadar), both in its good and in its evil aspects." He said, "You have spoken truly."

Then he (the man) said, "Inform me about Ihsan." He (the Messenger of Allah) answered, " It is that you should serve Allah as though you could see Him, for though you cannot see Him yet He sees you." He said, "Inform me about the Hour." He (the Messenger of Allah) said, "About that the one questioned knows no more than the questioner." So he said, "Well, inform me about the signs thereof (i.e. of its coming)." Said he, "They are that the slave-girl will give birth to her mistress, that you will see the barefooted ones, the naked, the destitute, the herdsmen of the sheep (competing with each other) in raising lofty buildings." Thereupon the man went off.

I waited a while, and then he (the Messenger of Allah) said, "O 'Umar, do you know who that questioner was?" I replied, "Allah and His Messenger know better." He said, "That was Jibril. He came to teach you your religion.""

(Narrated by MUSLIM)

POINTS TO LEARN:

  •  Hadith e Jibril / Jibrail as its is commonly known is a famous hadith which informs us about our religion. Our DEEN (religion) is based on ISLAM ( Total Submission i.e. The Apparent Deeds) and IMAAN (Belief i.e. The Hidden Deeds), both of which can and should be done along with IHSAAN (Perfection/Utmost Good way). These are the requisites of our Deen.

  •  Islam is based on 5 pillars:

            · Shahadah (Testimony)

            · Salah (Prayer)

            · Zakah (The Purifying Dues)

            · Sawm (Fasting)

            · Hajj (The Pilgrimage)

These pillars (excluding the first one – Shahadah) are studied under the Branch of FIQH.

  •  Imaan is based on 6 pillars:

            · Iman bi Allah (Belief in Allah)

            · Iman bil Malaikah (Belief in His Angels)

            · Iman bil Kutub ( Belief in His Books)

            · Iman bil Rusul (Belief in His Messengers)

            · Iman bil Youm al Akhirah (Belief on The Last Day)

            · Iman bil Qadr (Belief on Fate in both good and evil aspects)

These pillars (including the first one of Islam – Shahadah) are studied under AQEEDAH.

  •  We also learn the etiquette of dressing while we go to a gathering of knowledge. One must be clean, presentable and should not be a means of distraction for others (no body odor and dirty clothing should be avoided).

  •  Etiquette of sitting in a gathering of knowledge is also in this hadith. Sitting with knees resting down so as to sit in an attentive position. Also, sit as near to the teacher as possible as it helps to learn more and has a better effect.

There are many nice lectures (on you-tube and web) on the Hadith Jibril by renowned Scholars of Deen . I have added a video of it for proper pronunciation of  the arabic text:

May Allah Taa'la make it easy for us to understand the Qur'an and Hadith and its interpretation as it should be understood on the way of Rasool Allah Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam and His Companions Radhi Allahu anhum ajma'een...Ameen..:)

Thats it for now friends....I take your leave.. Hope it was helpful..... have a nice day..

Assalamualaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatahu...:)

IMPORTANCE OF FRIDAY

Friday is the sixth and best day in Islamic week. From various ahadith, it is proven that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to celebrate this day and he declared jummah as weekly eid for muslims. Heﷺ used to wear clean and new (washed) clothes, used to take bath, wear fragrance, wear surmah for this day specially.

Holy Prophet Muhammadﷺ had said, "The best day during which the sun have risen is Friday. It is the Day Adam was created. It is the day when Adam entered paradise and also when he was taken out from it. It is also the day on which the Day of Judgment takes place." reported by Imam Muslim, Abu-Dawood, Al-Nasai, and Al-Tirmizi

Rasulallah ﷺ is reported to have said,
“Recite Durood upon me in abundance on the day of Jummah since they are presented to me.” (Ibn Majah)

Virtues of Friday:

The Messenger of Allah (SAWS) said: "There is such an hour on Friday that if any Muslim makes dua in it, his dua will definitely be accepted." (Bukhari, Muslim)
The ulama have differed in specifying that hour which has been mentioned in the Hadith. Shaykh Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dehlawi (Allah have mercy on him) has mentioned 40 different opinions in his book Sharh Sifrus Sa'adah. However, from among all these opinions he has given preference to two opinions:

That time is from the commencement of the khutbah till the end of the prayer, That time is towards the end of the day. A group of ulama have given preference to this second opinion and there are many Hadiths which support this opinion. Shaykh Dehlawi (Allah have mercy on him) says that this narration is correct that Hadrat Fatimah (R.A.) used to order her maid on Fridays to inform her when the day is about to end so that she could occupy herself in making zikr and duas.
The Messenger of Allah (SAWS) said: "Friday is the best of all days and the most virtuous in the sight of Allah Most High. In the sight of Allah Most High it has more greatness than Eid ul-Fitr and Eid ul-Ad'haa." (Ibn Majah)

The Messenger of Allah (SAWS) said: "The Muslim who passes away on the night or during the day of Friday, Allah Most High saves him from the punishment of the grave." (Tirmidhi)

Some hadiths about Friday:

  1. The Messenger of Allah (SAWS) said: "the person who has a bath on Friday, purifies himself as far as possible, applies oil to his hair, applies perfume, leaves for the mosque, when he arrives at the mosque he does not sit down by removing anyone from his place, offers as many nafl prayers as possible, when the imam delivers the khutbah he remains silent - then his sins from the previous Friday till now will be forgiven." (Bukhari)
  2. Hadrat Ibn Umar and Abu Hurayrah (R.A.) a narrate that they heard the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) saying: "People should abstain from leaving out Friday prayer. If not, Allah Most High will put a seal over their hearts whereby they will fall into severe negligence." (Muslim)

ACTIONS AND INTENTIONS

بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم

السلام علیکم ورحمتہ اللہ و برکاتہ

As this is the start of our blog, I thought this was the most suitable hadith to write about. Although ALHUMDULILLAH many of us already know it and must have heard and read it many times but it is 'the most important' to have a right 'niyyah' before doing any work (good of course) as our Prophet Muhammed (Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam) said:

On the authority of Omar bin Al - Khattab, who said: I heard the messenger of Allah Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam say: "Actions are but by intention and every man shall have but that which he intended. Thus he whose migration was for Allah and His messenger, his migration was for Allah and His messenger, and he whose migration was to achieve some worldly benefit or to take some woman in marriage, his migration was for that for which he migrated."

( Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim )

On the basis of this hadith, our niyyah (intention) is the most important. Our actions will be judged according to our niyyah and we will be answerable to ALLAH Subhaanahu wa Taa'la. It is very important to have Ikhlaas (sincerity) in our actions in order for them to be accepted by Him.

'Ikhlaas' means to do every action sincerely, be it internal or external, with the intention to please Allah Taa'la irrespective of people being pleased with you or
not, and expecting reward only from Him believing that Allah Taa'la is All Hearing, All Watching.

May Allah Taa'la bless us with ikhlaas in our niyyah and bless us with the taufiq to do the right thing, the right way with the intention to please Him alone....AMEEN
